Joel Radio #219: This One Was Tough

It’s so sad to say goodbye to friend and comedian Mike Lundy, a frequent guest on this podcast, who passed away recently. Joel and Corey share their memories of Mike, play some clips of Mike from the show and remember the great talent he was. Joel tried to assemble the best of his previous appearances on the show but ultimately didn’t do the best job, so a further tribute is in order. You will hear a crossdresser try to get Mike to take his shirt off at Pridefest though, so there’s that. The guys saved the eulogy for the end of the show, however, and there’s a ton of “regular” content before that, like another audience/comedian fight, Joel’s trip to Toronto where he tried an escape room for the first time, Barry on HBO was really great, another Pro Wrestling Crate unboxing, and find out what new movie has a-list actresses doing it.

Joel Radio #83: The Avengers of Podcasting

This week, Corey Hall gives his review of The Avengers, a movie so long in the making that the twelve-year-olds who really wanted to see this movie are now in their mid-thirties. Still, Corey is enthusiastic, while Joel feels that the general public isn’t really feeling this film, but it’ll make $200 million on opening weekend and about three-hundred bucks after that. Speaking of juvenile movies, the guys see Aardman’s Pirate movie (it’s OK), and Joel thinks Disney’s Chimpanzee is a collision of state-of-the-art visuals and cliched animated film narration – a near miss at a classic. Also, Dick Clark finally dies, Levon Helm sadly dies, and Mike Wallce dies as he lived – an asshole. Plus, HBO’s Girls is not for guys, Corey suffers through Law & Order, and Joel finally sees Bruce Springsteen after a twenty-five year wait.

Is NBC’s Thursday night the place to be, or does HBO have the market cornered on edgy sitcoms? Cory Hall even joins in via telephone to tell the world why The Office has slipped, Community deserves a chance and there’s a CBS sitcom that’s really good, and it’s not How I Met Your Mother. The Sopranos series finale has America talking and has C&J pissed off. Now, after eight years of intense drama we can reveal the Sopranos shocking final revelation – Meadow can’t parallel park. Oh, and Tony likes onion rings. The abrupt, non surprise ending left many fans outraged and ready to cancel HBO, but Corey thinks critics might have missed the point. Joel thinks Corey’s just being a dick again. Meanwhile, there’s major death pool action. What celebs are clinging to life, and what death pool players are clinging to hope of a victory? Also, is David Copperfield gay? Are any magicians straight? Can you make a battery out of a potato? What’s that in Mr. Wizards pants? Corey explains the trouble with stupid kids ruining World of Warcraft and there’s an extra dorky discussion of the finer points of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Finally, a fan gets has his dream come tru as Corey and Joel record his answering machine message. He’ll probably regret that request.
