Joel Radio #157: Are You Funnier Than a 5th Grader?
Oct 2nd
Joel Radio is happy to cover every gimmick comedian to come on the scene. From grandmothers to stutterers to puppet acts, this show has highlighted some of the wackiest comics to emerge over the years. Which makes this week’s breakout comedy star, 10-year-old Saffron Herndon, fair game for this week’s podcast. Joel listens to her set and has the obvious questions: did she write these jokes? If not, who did? Don’t you have to have good timing to be a comedian? Joel is aided in his analysis by returning guest co-host Samantha Rager, a comedian herself who once performed on a show with Saffron. Sam is more positive than Joel is on the act, although she really didn’t get the Nirvana joke – more evidence that those thoughts are not of a 10-year-old when the smart, sophisticated mid-20s comic doesn’t get it. Also, find out the one new embarrassing prime-time TV show that has actually watched, why he wants it to work, and why it doesn’t. And late night TV gets an overhaul as Trevor Noah debuts, Stephen Colbert has the worst band ever, and Jimmy Fallon’s nostalgia act is completely phony and Joel has the proof. Plus, Sam’s humorous musings on love, the Steve Jobs documentary is a good one, and why the Everest 3D movie is the closest Joel ever wants to get to the real thing.

Joel Radio #150: The New Comedy Boom or Bust
Apr 21st
Is comedy having a new boom? According to a recent article, comedy’s future will be performed in the back of a comic book store, to other comedians, and without punch lines – hooray! Actually, Joel is pretty troubled by the recent alt-comedy scene, feeling that so much of it’s charming qualities will fail to transfer to a bigger stage and that audiences will ultimately expect a standard of professionalism once the “boom” translates into people paying top-dollar for their entertainment. Corey seems more optimistic about this new future as podcasts (!) are seen as the new, best way of comedians promoting themselves. Either way, this show has some rock-solid advice for aspiring comedy superstars and a look into the future of comedy and why it may end up looking more like comedy’s past than most people realize. Also, the internet goes crazy for movie trailers as the guys look at the upcoming offerings from Star Wars, The Terminator, Jurassic World, and Batman vs Superman. Plus, Joel goes to Florida and has the scars to prove it, Corey is bored by Sinatra, a new voice says Jimmy Fallon sucks, and does Yahoo! have TV’s best new comedy show?

Joel Radio #123: Better Than Charades
Feb 21st
It’s the dawning of a new era in late night TV as Jimmy Fallon takes over the Tonight Show. The critical mass has been largely positive on the shows first few episodes, but can Jimmy Fallon win over card-carrying Leno-haters Joel and Corey? Joel’s thinking no, as the kiss-ass interviews and lame party games are sure to deflate any discerning viewers interest, and Jimmy’s lack of comedic teeth will soon make the show as dull as any number of daytime TV’s talkers. Corey sees some light on the horizon, but is more happy about Leno’s ouster than anything else. Hear their hard hitting criticism, including Joel’s twitter play-by-play that was so scorching the mainstream media picked up on it. Also, Emma Stone may or may not be nude on the internet and the guys pour over paparazzi bikini pics to do some comparisons – even more expert analysis! Plus, podcasting’s technical details explained by Joel, if you hate coffee you’re a commie (according to Corey), and looking at people’s ex-girlfriends is a total blast and how you can do it yourself.

This games of charades was as funny as it looks. Thanks, Jimmy.
Joel Radio #120: T.V. O.D.
Jan 10th
Joel Radio kicks off 2014 with it’s annual in-depth look at the state of television. While it’s not so much the best and worst lists – though Joel and Corey have those – it’s more a look at the state of television today, the different way people are viewing it, the audience’s expectation of TV in 2014 and where it’s going. Don’t worry – there’s dick jokes, too! The guys breakdown the best late-night shows segment-by-segment to see who has the best monologue, interviews, bits, musical guests, etc. There’s true winners and losers, too. Sorry, Jimmy Fallon. Also, a look at the original series on streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon. The guys will tell you the best and the worst, including one with a Bill Murray cameo! Plus, Joel tells you what’s wrong with sketch shows and which one gets it right, Corey can’t say Breaking Bad is bad, and Joel discovers the new American minority that’s ripe for reality TV exploitation – sorry Cajuns! A two-hour powerhouse show. Listen before you watch!

Joel Radio #1: Why Not?
Jun 4th
After having two week’s on no Corey and Joel Radio Show, Joel has taken it upon himself to do a solo show this week, so enjoy! It was a big week in late-night TV as Jay Leno leaves, Conan debuts and Jimmy Fallon – well, we’d tell you what Jimmy Fallon did if we actually watched. Find out who got the bigger ratings, why Andy Richter can’t sit on the couch and why Leno’s choice of final guest was almost two decades in the making. Also, the big E3 video game conference took place this past week. Hear Joel’s picks of the best and the worst from the show; where the Beatles appeared, Sony kicked Nintendo in the nuts, and why Joel now thinks he’s buying a PS3. Plus, Bruno & Eminem’s stunt was staged and still not funny.
