Joel Radio #254: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Review
Dec 20th
Joel attends opening night of the new Star Wars movie and reviews it along with comedians Kevin Kramis and Josh Bowab. Turn out the guys liked it overall, even if they weren’t all that hyped to see it. The review is *spoiler free* for the first 18 minutes or so – you’ve been warned! Joel rips Kevin for peeing at THE most inopportune time, the guys try to figure out the geography of the Star Wars universe, and why Lando was hitting on that one chick. Joel thinks its a fine Star Wars film with plenty of cute stuff, some questionable CGI, and a bit of fan-service that is 42 years too late. Nothing to get upset about like Last Jedi, anyway. It’s one of the least-disappointing films this holiday season. Go see it!
Here’s Babu. The breakout star of this film. The Babu/Baby Yoda buddy film can’t be far away
Joel Radio #221: KFC Diplomacy
Jun 13th
The world seems crazier than ever, as Trump meets a Korean dictator, IHOp changes its name, Anthony Bourdain dies, and the NBA is the most important thing in the world – to some people. Stuff got weird this week. Really weird. Also, Corey Hall meets a big celebrity in Detroit, but it wasn’t a great encounter – find out who he met and why he wasn’t a nice man on this show. Plus, Star Wars nerds are mean, Roseanne goes nuts, as does Lisa Lampanelli, HBO’s Barry was fantastic, and movie reviews of Deadpool 2, A Quiet Place and Herdeitary. The big takeaway from this show – Guy Fieri is an asshat who will outlive us all.

Joel Radio #220: The Solo: A Star Wars Story Review
May 25th
The Jedi Council re-convenes for a review of the latest Star Wars movie: Solo: A Star Wars Story. Joel, Corey Hall, Josh Bowab and new member Paul, an artist and lifelong Star Wars fan, break down the latest film which was a plagued production with a director switch and a rush to release. It’s actually pretty good, say some on the panel, with the filmmakers nailing the feel of the original trilogy with it’s style and humor. The acting is pretty good, too. It’s not all great, however, as there’s a few cringe-worthy scenes and some logical leaps which hindered some of the Council’s enjoyment. The guys also break down the Easter eggs, references and surprises – and there are plenty. There’s a lot of laughs on this show, too! And the first twenty minutes are spoiler-free! Plus, Joel watches The Last Jedi again and dislikes it even more this time. If you like Star Wars, you’ll love this show.

Good artwork, at least!
Joel Radio #212: No Halftime Show
Feb 7th
Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and while neither Joel nor Corey Hall really cared who won, the game was entertaining and what happened afterwards in Philadelphia was insane. The fans partied, rioted and acted exactly as you would have expected considering Philly’s reputation. Hear the undoubtedly incomplete list of crazy shit the fans did in celebration the team’s victory on this show. The guys also talk about the lukewarm halftime show, the commercials, (including a new Star Wars trailer), what the guys ate during the game, and how TV’s biggest goat on Sunday will now be the head coach of the Detroit Lions. Also, Quentin Tarantino is starting to look really bad in regards to how he treated Uma Thurman, Molly’s Game gets reviewed, more on The Shape of Water, Columbus and The Florida Project, Joel sees some Oscar-worthy, but surprising documentaries, and how to learn everything you ever wanted to know about Star Wars toys. Plus, Mark E. Smith of The Fall has died and Joel has a tribute to great music made a legendarily cantankerous asshole.

Joel Radio # 209: Three Arguments Outside Savannah, Georgia
Dec 22nd
The last show of 2017 sees lots of holiday spirit as Joel and Corey Hall fight over a movie that critics loved and the audience liked far less – no, not Star Wars (but they get to that), instead it’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Joel found the characters unlikable and the film boring, while Corey thinks the allegorical message and fine performances made it stand out. It’s a classic argument, but one to consider if you’re into seeing the Oscar-bait movies that come out this time of year. Also, Joel sees Bruce Springsteen’s Broadway show with some A-list company but braved a terrorist attack and snowstorm to do so. Plus, a road update from Ted Moss on his tour through the south, including Joel embarrassing him and Bill Reno in Savannah, Georgia, The Disaster Artist gets reviewed, and more Star Wars coverage at the end of the show. Hear how the guys nailed all the controversies before they even started and how those controversies will impact the future of the franchise.

Joel Radio #208: The Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review
Dec 15th
Joel re-assembles the Jedi Council of reviewers to talk about the new Star Wars film on opening night. Listen as Joel, Corey Hall, Josh Bowab, and Ellen Stachowicz break down the newest installment talking what worked and what didn’t, the direction the films in the future, some odd casting decisions and the influx of cuddly new animals. Is this as good as The Force Awakens? The Original Trilogy? Is this the Han Solo of Star Wars Films, the Jar Jar Binks or something in-between? The first part is spoiler-free so don’t worry if you haven’t seen it yet. You’ll hear the warnings when it happens, so listen to the first on the way to the movie and the second part on the way home. Or throw in an earbud and listen during the show – you won’t have to hear Benecio del Toro! May the Force Be With You for listening to this one!

Joel Radio #201: Sunday Funday Sunday
Sep 8th
What did you do for fun this Labor Day weekend? Corey Hall braved the huddled masses and saw and aging B-52s at a free festival, while Joel took a high-dollar option to watch an aging U2. Corey describes the horror of middle America searching for some free fun, while Joel thinks U2 was good a enough show with a solid opening act – Beck! – that made the $100+ price tag worth it. The guys also get an expert opinion on U2 from comedian Tom McCarthy who had seen the tour before and yet still couldn’t figure out what Patti Smith was doing on stage, either. Also, a Charlotesville racist does horrible stand-up, Joel talks The Strokes on a podcast, Aaron Rodgers gets a big, gay mustache and goodbye to Jay Thomas and Shelly Berman. Plus, the state of big franchise movie universes, the future of Star Wars, and the one big monster movie you really should see.

Joel Radio #185: The Star Wars: Rogue One Review
Dec 16th
Another year, another Star Wars movie – oh wait – that’s never happened until now, with the release of of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Joel, comedian Josh Bowab, and comedienne Ellen Stachowicz (a girl with such nerd cred she’s even written Star Wars fan-fiction) attended an opening night screening and sat down to do an immediate review. If you haven’t seen it, it is spoiler-free for the first 20 minutes or so, just finish listening after you see it. And you should see it, as it’s a very good, WWII-style action movie ala Bridge on The River Kwai. The guys discuss the fan-service cameos, the gritty, more realistic violence and if certain digital effects enhance or detract from the movie. We also hear how the screening was ruined by too much air-conditioning, and how Ellen managed to miss the first few minutes. Plus, hear how this film compares to The Force Awakens, their hopes for the future Star Wars films, and the wild theories about the true identity of Supreme Leader Snoke and if this movie sheds any light on it, and what the hell happened to Darth Vader’s voice?

Joel Radio #162: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review
Dec 18th
Joel Radio is the first(?) podcast to have a complete review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In fact, it’s so complete it’s almost as long as the movie! Don’t worry – there are NO SPOILERS – for 20 minutes anyway, and then there’s a METRIC TON OF SPOILERS after that, so maybe listen to a little before and the rest after seeing the movie. Joel and Corey Hall compare the actual film to last show’s hopes about it, break down what works and what doesn’t, describe the nerdy scene at the theater, and generally whoop and holler about all things Star Wars in a post-George Lucas universe. Also, find out the characters that don’t work at all and why one character’s weight gain is especially hilarious – it’s not who you think! Whether you loved or hated the movie, there’s something for you on this show, and its eventual sequels.

Joel Radio #161: The Manifesto
Dec 10th
You can’t say you’re not a nerd when you write a page and a half written diatribe about the Star Wars saga – a review of the previous films and a preview of the new one coming out. That’s exactly what head nerd Joel did for this week’s podcast, sharing his thoughts with fellow geek Corey Hall, dissecting what they love, hate and everything else about Star Wars. From the excellence of the original trilogy’s design to the awful acting of the prequels, hear the good and the bad, like which two characters ruin the overarching plot of the series, why Darth Vader ceases to be a bad guy in Jedi and why everyone became a lizard after a certain point. The guys also make predictions about the Force Awakens including what review score they’d be happy with, the various characters that will or won’t appear, and the awesome plans they’ve made for a screening and podcast review. Also, Joel’s scary Charlie Sheen update, “experts” say Bernie Sanders will become president, see ya Scott Weiland, and a Big Bird documentary that will make you cry. Plus, Bill Murray’s holiday special falls flat. Find out how big stars, good musicians, and a ton of hype made for this year’s great entertainment disappointment – until, perhaps, The Force Awakens.
