Joel Radio Live at O’Maras Comedy Night February 27, 2014
Joel Radio is proud to present a real-life “bar” open mike show, recorded live and without edits at O’Mara’s Irish Pub in Berkley, MI. Joel is the host and opens with several minutes of fresh material written specifically for the night. He riffs on the Sochi Olympics, The Lego Movie, the Oscars and perhaps most successfully, pitches his idea for a new reality show, one that might help him actually get laid. It’s risky material, and some is so new it’s practically read right off the page, but it works, mostly. Except for that Girls joke, which bombed, but is still funny if you watch the show. You’ll also hear a similarly unrehearsed set from Corey Hall, who while every bit successful (or unsuccessful) as Joel on the night, clearly spent exactly no time actually writing his stuff down. Also, show favorite Mike Lundy returns to the stage and does what he does best – getting laughs, recent show guest Samantha Rager does some sit-down comedy, and Michael Babbish and Allen Smock team up to play Battleship with jokes, which ends up being exactly funny as it sounds. Plus, Dan Brittain arrives fresh from comedy school, Marty Smith proves that crazy old men can still write pretty good jokes, and lots more terrific comedy sets from Michael Geeter, Zach Stein, Ron Lutze, Amit Jain, Esther Navarez, and AJ Rice. Perhaps most importantly though, you’ll hear the comedy debut of Nino Brown, a young man who has a krunked-out, English-language defying delivery that is either the worst or the funniest thing that you’re ever likely to hear. Listen as Nino roasts the room, hampered somewhat by the fact that the targets of his jokes can’t seem to understand what he’s saying. After years of hearing wild stories from Joel and Corey about open mike comedy shows of the past, here’s a chance to experience one for yourself from the comfort of your own home or car, no cover charge required.

Joel’s comedy set and running order for the show. A clash of handwritten chaos and word-processed brilliance

Really enjoyed this unique show, hope it’s the start of something cool. Thought it would be fun to throw out
my blow by blow opinion on all the sets tonight. Props to everyone who took the stage for having the balls to get up there and try to make people laugh! My mini review-
JOEL- Having seen Joel do a comedy set as Upchuck at the Gathering, I’m already schooled on his live skills,so no surprise, a solid set. 7/10 Best Bit- Winter Olympics Sleep Aid
MICHAEL-The biggest laughs of the night for me.Really funny.9/10 Best Bit- TIE- Watching Fat People Screw / My Stroke Ain’t Broke
ZACK- Felt like he was channeling Emo Phillips, not a lot of laughs for me in this set. 4/10 Best Bit- Stop Mom You’re Making Me Blush
SAM- Seemed to be very random series of thoughts, more performance art than comedy. Laughed a few times.4/10 Best Bit- Webcam Geppettos
RON- Sounded comfortable in front of the crowd. His set felt like more of an extended angry rant than comedy.5/10 Best Bit- Bald Eagle Bitch Nerd Kill
COREY-Had me laughing even though the crowd was quiet. Loved the self mocking. 7/10 Best Bit- Waffle Tacos
MIKE L-Good delivery, jokes were hit and miss, focused on the racial stuff maybe a little too much. I did laugh though. 6/10 Best Bit- Speaking Swahennessy
AMIT- Hacky yelling at the audience, Crass delivery,Std talk. Not my idea of a good time. First real bomb of the night. Buzzkill. Back to the drawing board for that dude. 2/10 Best bit- Former Rape Defense Instructor
ALAN and MIKE-Painfully lame Battleship gimmick. Both dudes were way too self assured. Didn’t laugh once.Thumbs Down. 1/10 Best Bit- When it was over, Ouch.
Should of been Apollo clowned off the stage mid way through.
ESTER-Breath of fresh air after the previous fiasco. Chuckled a lot.. 7/10 Best Bit- You’re Just In This For The Fries Bitch!
MARTY-Enjoyed his one liners. Had a lot of good jokes. Little quiet on the vocals, other than that, great stuff. 8/10
Best Bit- I’d Rather Fly Slut!
AJ- Very funny delivery and style, with good material to boot. Dragged in a few spots, had me laughing hard though.7/10 Best Bit- Clean Underwear Hell Yeahs
DAN- A bit hit and miss. Laughed at some of it. Best Bit- Walmart stuff
NINO- Not much to be said, sounded like a legit crackhead, could barely understand him. Not funny.1/10 Best Bit- When his 8+ minutes were up.
All in all a solid first show, good sound quality too. Hope to see many more of these shows in the future! Props to all involved.

That’s some review, Brent! Glad you liked the show. Probably would’ve used this comment on the latest show, but it’s already recorded.
