Joel Radio #264: Goodbye Corey Hall
On this show, Joel remembers his friend and co-host Corey Hall who passed away suddenly at age 44. It’s an emotional two hours as Joel talks about Corey’s life and career, how the two met, their successes and failures as podcasters and much more. Hear about their good, but ultimately doomed audition for commercial radio, the favorite shows they did together, what they fought about and what they both loved. There’s other tributes to Corey, too: one from NPR, his family’s obituary and a very nice piece by Adam Graham from The Detroit News. Goodbye, Corey. You will be missed.

I’m really gonna miss the big guy. Good on ya Joel for making it through the tribute show, great job. Obviously you know Joelradio will never be the same without Corey around, but I hope you continue on, I still really enjoy the rotation of guests you’ve had on over the last few years. I gotta say I was worried about Corey’s weight/health when I saw how big Ted made him look in the painting he made last December. I also remember Corey giving you a hard time about you’re diet, instead of being inspired to drop a few pounds himself. Still, no one that cool deserves to die at a such a young age. I’ll never forget Corey Hall as long as I live. What a sharp mind that guy had. Got really choked up when I found out the news yesterday when you posted the episode. Regret not calling the DB hotline while he still alive to hear my call, at least he responded to some of my comments from this page over the years. Rest in Peace brother.

Thank you for this. I remember the Club Bart glory days and I most certainly remember all the times we went to Como’s until the early AM (Danny’s first though! “they call her Summer cause of her teeth – Summer this way…”) or an insanely ridiculous show where the three of us got drunk (mostly me) and said ridiculous things and just being younger and sillier or trying to sound cool.
As hard as it was to listen to you hitting, I’m glad you did this podcast for him, I’m sure it won’t be the last.
And you are up there as a ‘widower’ because a lot of people can’t stay married through what you two have been through. I loved you both, and still do. XOXO

Your cast was so heartfelt!!! I cried! One memory I have of Corey was…I was one stage doing my bit at Club Bart and Corey yelled out, “You are not a comedian”! Now I ask myself often, fact or fiction, who knows for sure, Am I? I’ll miss him nonetheless…..so sorry he’s gone so soon!

I am surprised and saddened to hear of Corey’s untimely demise…. stunned even. I’ve listened to the podcasts since the very first one, and feel like both he and Joel have a little spot inside my brain. Now to know that he’s gone, left us here to rattle around pointlessly, looking for decent movies and pizza…. Fucking hell Corey, I will miss you so much. My most sincere condolences to your family, and your friend Joel. Too soon, too sudden, too sad…. 🙁
