Joel Radio #264: Goodbye Corey Hall
Jul 16th
On this show, Joel remembers his friend and co-host Corey Hall who passed away suddenly at age 44. It’s an emotional two hours as Joel talks about Corey’s life and career, how the two met, their successes and failures as podcasters and much more. Hear about their good, but ultimately doomed audition for commercial radio, the favorite shows they did together, what they fought about and what they both loved. There’s other tributes to Corey, too: one from NPR, his family’s obituary and a very nice piece by Adam Graham from The Detroit News. Goodbye, Corey. You will be missed.

Apr 26th
Joel and Corey Hall review Avengers: Endgame on its opening weekend. Don’t worry, there’s no spoilers – right away anyway – so feel free to start listening and finish after you’ve seen the film. Joel has always been skeptical of Marvel’s film output, while Corey is a comics fanboy and yet, they mostly agree about this one. Don’t worry, there’s more arguments in future episodes! Read Corey Hall’s written review here, too.
Joel Radio #240: This Show Is Anti-Viral
Apr 11th
Comedian Jeff Horste joins Joel and Corey Hall on this show to discuss his move to L.A., working with Kevin Hart, going viral on the internet, and if he’s attending Nipsey Hussle’s funeral. The guys look back at Jeff’s comedy career start at Club Bart and the unique way Joel (the host) encouraged comics to get off the stage – no lights necessary. Also, Joel does New York City, seeing Adam Driver on Broadway, watching pro wrestling at Madison Square Garden, and seeing a unique and wonderful magic show. Find if Star Wars co-stars Driver and Keri Russell got naked on stage and find out which one inadvertently spit on Joel! Plus, who sat where on the Match Game, Corey likes Shazam, The Inventor documentary is weird (as is the lady!) and Joel produces a new podcast.
Kevin Hart talking to Jeff Horste. It was a short interview!
Joel Radio #235: Late Bingo
Jan 4th
The first podcast of 2019 starts like the others – Corey Hall is late! Special guest comedian Bill Hildebrandt and Joel speculate as to why, creating the “Corey Hall is Late Bingo” game. Corey shows up after a few minutes, though. His reason? Listen to find out. And it’s a fun show, too, as the guys talk comedy on New Year’s Eve, why it’s not always a great show, how Tiffany Haddish and Louis CK had infamous NYE shows this year. There are wild, diverse opinions on the topic and Joel reads some online reaction, too, from friends an celebrities alike. Also, celebrities are dying already in 2019 including, legendary pro wrestling interviewer “Mean” Gene Okerlund, and comedy legend Bob Einstein. Plus, another take on the “Gallagher story”, Bird Box made the world go crazy even though it sucks, Joel says there are awesome documentaries on Hulu, and who thought Vice might be the best movie of 2018.
Poor excuses not pictured!
Joel Radio #234: Dancing In The Afternoon
Dec 14th
The crowd goes wild as Corey Hall dances during his introduction on this podcast. Ok, it didn’t happen that way, but if Joel and Corey were daytime talk show hosts, it would have. The guys discuss Ellen leaving, the ridiculous and (also dancing) GMA Day and how Wendy Williams keeps America’s housewives up-to-date on hip-hop culture. Also, the guys eat “The Worlds Best Chocolate Chip Cookies” – it says that on the box! It sounded too good to be true, and it was. Listen to find out why. Plus, another comedian is pulled off the stage by snowflakes, Corey talks Bumping Mics; which he’s done himself, Neflix unveils a horrid Xmas movie, Dumplin’ is for girls, Joel rental picks to click, and The Favourite is the best new movie to see for two reasons says Corey.

Joel Radio #231: Too Cheesy

Hear the psychology of the hype of a haunted house and how that applies to restaurants and other businesses. Joel Radio #220: The Solo: A Star Wars Story Review
May 25th
The Jedi Council re-convenes for a review of the latest Star Wars movie: Solo: A Star Wars Story. Joel, Corey Hall, Josh Bowab and new member Paul, an artist and lifelong Star Wars fan, break down the latest film which was a plagued production with a director switch and a rush to release. It’s actually pretty good, say some on the panel, with the filmmakers nailing the feel of the original trilogy with it’s style and humor. The acting is pretty good, too. It’s not all great, however, as there’s a few cringe-worthy scenes and some logical leaps which hindered some of the Council’s enjoyment. The guys also break down the Easter eggs, references and surprisesĀ – and there are plenty. There’s a lot of laughs on this show, too! And the first twenty minutes are spoiler-free! Plus, Joel watches The Last Jedi again and dislikes it even more this time. If you like Star Wars, you’ll love this show.

Good artwork, at least!
Joel Radio #196: Knives Out For Comedy
Jun 21st
The joyful art of stand-up comedy had yet another controversy this week as Iliza Shlesinger outraged both comedians and comedy fans with some pointed opinions in a recent interview. Were Iliza’s comments about female comedians off-base or was there some merit to her statements about originality and audience’s expectations? Should you really be proud of a World War II joke? Joel investigates with the help of Corey Hall and the returning Ted Moss. Ted is a fan of Iliza’s and thinks she’s getting a bad rap. Joel thinks she’s talented but also shares his experience working with Iliza a few years back and is not surprised that this happened at all. The guys discuss advantages and pitfalls of being a hot chick in comedy, and why the most important thing is show business is to be easy to work with. Also, I’m Dying Up Here on Showtime continues to get it wrong, a second look at La La Land, doing a podcast with the power out, and a review of Saving Banksy on Netflix. Plus, Corey has seen the latest Steve Harvey abomination. Piece of advice: when you’re in the Funderdome, don’t look him in the eye.
