It’s a different format on this episode, as Joel sat down with comedian Collin Moulton for a casual, Sunday afternoon talk about comedy, life and whole milk. Collin and Joel met a few years ago on the road and developed a fast friendship over clowns, jiu jitsu and comedy. So when Collin made a recent spin through Detroit, the guys got together to watch a Lions game, a UFC show and eat Taco Bell. It’s a fun conversation filled with inside comedy anecdotes, tips on performing and strategies for making a podcast successful – not that Joel takes his own advice! While this talk was recorded a few weeks ago, the upside is that Collin now has his own podcast for your listening pleasure. Don’t worry, Joel helped just enough to get it up and running, but not enough to ruin it. Enjoy!

Joel Radio #142: Assholes of the Year 2014

The holiday tradition continues with the annual Assholes of the Year show for 2014. Joel and Corey Hall list the biggest hypocrites, liars, jerks and evil-doers of the year. These are diverse lists from the world of politics, entertainment, sports and wherever one could excel at assholery. From the ebola scare to Korean hacking to criminal cover-ups, there’s been a lot of bad behavior this year and it’s all exposed by Joel and Corey. You may not agree with all the picks, and Joel is especially nervous that some will disagree with his top pick, but there’s a little something for everyone on this show. Find out which pick that Corey has actually met in real life, who Joel actually likes but is still an asshole, and who is really responsible for the Sony/North Korea/The Interview hacking scandal. It’s a really funny show, except when it isn’t! There’s real debate and real emotion, so fire up the yule log and be glad you’re not them – here’s to an asshole-free 2015!

Joel Radio #141: Let’s Get Real

Even though it stated more than halfway through the show, all anyone is going to be talking about from this episode is the epic fight between Joel and Corey Hall. You could say it started innocently enough, with guest John E.L. Tenney asking about the show’s name change from a few years back. It quickly disintegrates into an argument about pizza toppings, who’s funnier and who needs psychological counseling. This is a loud, expletive filled argument that is absolutely not safe for work so keep that in mind. It also may be really uncomfortable to listen to, but John found it endlessly entertaining so there’s that. Before all that happened the guys broke down TV’s latest “events”, a Peter Pan live musical and a guy getting eaten by a snake, they both sucked, but for different reasons. There’s also analysis of the Dan Klein comedy special, an inside, meta comedy/parody that’s either brilliant or awful or both. Hear that compared to Dan’s actual stand-up comedy and figure out which is worse. Plus, nerd rage over the Star Wars teaser, Interstellar is too long (but still shorter than this show), John on the future of Ghost Stalkers, and opening Xmas presents from the fans – delight or disappointment?

Joel Radio #140: Better Than The Jets

Joel and Corey are fired up after watching the Buffalo Bills destroy the New York Jets at Ford Field in Detroit. They have a lot to say about the game, which was collection of guys that aren’t popular in Detroit, including two former coaches who nobody likes now. Hear about the guys’ exploits at the stadium, as football is more fun when the tickets are free and you don’t care at all about the result. Also, a full breakdown of the allegations against Bill Cosby. Why a famous, powerful man resorts to drugging women, and why what he is accused of is absolutely 100% a crime. Plus, Last Comic Standing is canceled (again), goodbye to Mike Nichols and Tom Magliozzi, Corey streams some old showson Hulu, Banksy Does New York on HBO, and Sex Tape is (probably) the worst movie of the year. There’s also a nuclear fight over an indie movie that Joel loved and Corey despised. Listen to hear why Corey is wrong (It’s not fair because I wrote this, but Corey is still wrong – Joel).

Joel Radio #139: Butter Those Roles

Growing old sucks. It must suck even more for a Hollywood actress like Renee Zellweger, who showed up at a red carpet event looking as good as you can expect a mid-40s actress can look – only looking like a completely different person. All the while stating how good she actually looks, Joel and Corey Hall break down the changes they see, why people are so outraged by the differences, and how past criticisms of her features make the current controversy so ridiculous. At least she doesn’t look like Meg Ryan. Also, FOX’s new sitcom Mulaney is a train wreck and the guys examine how poor casting, network notes and a lack of personality made this one of the fall’s worst new shows. Plus, comedian Sal Demilio calls in with football picks, a San Francisco tour guide channels the Insane Clown Posse, The Flaming Lips and Fwends rape The Beatles, Corey reviews the movie Birdman, and so much more beautiful nonsense in a jam-packed two-hour show.

What’s a modern girl gotta do to make it? That question probably won’t be answered on this episode of Joel Radio, but returning guest comedian Samantha Rager tells of her wacky, hilarious ways of overcoming life’s challenges. Hear how Sam placed a Craigslist ad for an imaginary loved one, and had her car washed away by a recent flood and the scumbag car dealer who ripped her off for a replacement. Also, hear her desire for a professional cuddler, the pitfalls of webcam modeling, and her (possible) interest in the profession of topless housekeeping. It’s always a fun time when Sam’s around, and get a hold of us if you wanna cuddle. Also, Corey finds some wacky old comedy shows on Hulu, John Tenney makes the papers for his TV debut this week, and Joel reviews St. Vincent, The Book of Life and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. Comedians are always looking for the next big score, and when they can’t get it from comedy they do something else. Like old friend Bill Hildebrandt, who’s a partner in a new invention by comedians that’s hoping to make the bedroom more fun. It’s nothing dirty, actually, but the Aussome TV Mount is an idea that might actually work. Bill discusses that challenges of being an inventor, the hopes he has for the device and pitches to Joel Radio’s own Shark Tank – Joel and Corey Hall – but will he get any bites? Also, The guys reminisce about hell gigs, including the most infamous one ever; photos of which were recently uncovered over 10 years later. Plus, Joel gets teased for painting a cow, the history of the “hands” bit, reviews of Gone Girl, The Equalizer, Selfie, Red Oaks and a new can’t-miss documentary on Netflix – Print The Legend.

There’s nothing worse than a comedian singing. Well, maybe, a singer telling jokes – but either way Joel Radio brings you a definitive list of the worst examples of comedians singing, from straight up, humorless covers, to awful Christmas songs and some of the lamest attempts at rapping ever, you’ll hear it all on this show. Which comic covers the Beatles? Which one hates joke thieves while ripping off Public Enemy? Which one sings about sticking things in his backside? It’s a definitive countdown of the most awful, cringe worthy, humorless songs ever sung by comedians you might actually like otherwise. Joel Radio #135: More Pretzel Than Pizza

While not a weird Oreo flavor or a wacky Jones Soda variety, Little Caesar’s introducing a pretzel crust pizza seemed like a good thing to investigate. Turns out this delicious food mash-up is better as idea than a real-world dinner item as neither Joel nor Corey really enjoyed the thing that much. Find out which standard pizza ingredient was left out, what it was replaced for and why kosher salt should be banned from pizzas from this point forward. Spend the time listening to this show rather than the $7 it cost for the pizza because, in the end – they’re both a waste! Also, the guys crack the case of the leaked celebrity nudes. Find out which ones are real, which are fake and why Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton claiming to be victims is laughable. Plus, a review of the Oddball Comedy Festival in Detroit, including a famous comic who, while short of bombing, did not do well. All this, and Joel appears in another movie (this time on Netflix), Houdini gets a miniseries, and Saved By The Bell gets an awful, cringe-worthy TV movie that Corey was forced to watch.

Joel Radio #134: Gallagher is Busy

One of the most fascinating times in the history of stand-up comedy was the 1979 strike at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Joel and Corey are well read on the history of the strike, but were too young to have any first-hand knowledge. So this week, when a vintage list of all the phone numbers of all the big future stars that participated in the strike found its way into the hands of your hosts, they couldn’t help but to call. Would Jay Leno answer? Any chance Garry Shandling picks up? Has Elaine Boosler changed her number? Listen as the guys find out for themselves. Later, their joined by Ken Sevara, a friend and fellow comic who lived through the strike, joins the show to share his memories of that time, gives his advice to comedians and shares his memories of Robin Williams. It’s a great, insightful interview with someone who lived through comedy’s golden age and lived to tell about it. Also, Joel gets another ten seconds of screen-time in a major motion picture – even though it’s awful, The Emmys become a “cool kids” clique party, Joel impresses a TV star, and The Simpsons get ruined again, this time in a whole new way. Plus, goodbye to Chelsea Lately, a show neither Joel nor Corey nor anyone with a penis actually watched.
